We at the Tallahassee Jewish Federation have been horrified at the recent news out of Ukraine. We stand with the Ukrainian people as they defend themselves against Russia's unjustified and unprovoked invasion of their homeland. We affirm the right of Ukraine to defend itself against these acts of aggression, and the right of the Ukrainian people to self-determination. In this moment, it is imperative that we take action. For generations, Jewish Federations have raised money for Jews in need throughout the world. The aggressive acts of war taken by Russia against Ukraine will impact nearly 200,000 Jews living in that country. Only a fraction of our Ukrainian Jewish brothers and sisters have been resettled in Israel since the attacks began. Funds are needed to assist in securing safety and resettlement for them while there is still time. As in previous times of crisis, local and national Jewish Federations are mobilizing to do our part:
"In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) have launched a $20 million emergency campaign to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable Jewish populations living in Ukraine. Funds will be allocated through Jewish Federations’ core partners, The Jewish Agency for Israel, The Joint Distribution Committee and World ORT, and others who are on the ground in Ukraine. The project will provide critical welfare where it is needed most and support to protect and safeguard Ukraine's Jewish community as well as Jews in neighboring countries." -Jerusalem Post, February 27, 2022 Because of this dire situation, the Tallahassee Jewish Federation has created an emergency fund for direct support of the Ukrainian Jews. All funds raised for this purpose will go directly from Tallahassee to the Jewish Federations of North America's emergency campaign for relief of the Jews in harm’s way in Ukraine.
